Well, it's official! I've finished my pilot for Snaptoons/Cartoon Network Asia. It was a long year but it also went by so fast...I pretty much became a zombie for the majority of the time, hunched in front of my computer. Eighteen hour days and endless emails is definitely a way to add on a couple of years to your face, ruin your core and posture and become a hermit.

But it is finished and I couldn't have done it without the work of my wonderful boyfriend, Maik, who pretty much worked on this pilot as much as I did. Thank you to all the peeps at CN, the amazing Canadian voice actors, the animation team that came on board to slug it out at Bigkidz and everyone who helped in pre-production and post. Thanks to my mum and dad for the ongoing support of what I do for a living AND my friends and industry pals for their words of support all year.

I wish I could show you it, but for now its just an internal fingers crossed that one day in the future it becomes something more.

In the meantime, here are some of the backgrounds I worked on...I'm pleased with what I pumped out in the amount of time I had, whilst I directed the animation and did a hundred other tasks.

I hope you all have a Merry Christmas and prosperous new year. I'll be taking a whole month off to kick start myself back into gear (sun, beach, exercise, reading and a new website) before starting work on a new Canadian animated series, which I'm really looking forward to.

Exchange Student Zero

Here is a preview of a project I worked on at the start of this year called Exchange Student Zero for Bogan Entertainment for the Cartoon Network. They pitched the project through the same SNAPTOONS program as me, funding them for a bible and pilot and now, they have created this TV movie. It will be screening on the 16th of December on the Cartoon Network and has the voice talents of Rove McManus and Mark Hamil.

Here is a little article about the show (link)...ESZ even has it's own area on the Cartoon Network Asia Pacific site and a game.
I found this image within the game, it has my background behind the character, yay!

ZAC Creative God Squad Project

Way back in late 2010, between illustrating the Monster Maintenance Manual and working on Little Johnny the Movie, I was hired as a character designer for a ZAC Creative production called God Squad. I really enjoyed it and I can finally share some clips of my designs in action. I designed all of the characters, main turnarounds and colour. I really love seeing them come to life, this was a great job to work on. There are some stills on the ZAC Creative site too (link).

Perth Awesome Arts Festival 2012

Earlier this year I was involved in creating this poster for the Awesome Arts Festival. I didn't design the original characters, but had to illustrate them in a new setting/layout and paint it in the right style for ZAC Creative. A fellow artist, Sandra Chiang, did some final touches to the paint job, when I had to pull out at the last minute to work on the pilot. Thanks Sandra!

Here is the animated commercial for the event by ZAC Creative.

Here are a couple of banners made up from the artwork I did.

Save the Koalas T-shirt Entry

Went a little 90's on it...apparently the 90's triangles I grew up with as a child have made a return, so I'll get in on that action. I made it a little in-joke on this little dude with the "free hugs", seeing as they give out hundreds of free hugs a week in this country.

In relation to koalas, this week in South Australia, there were some pretty bad bush fires and koalas are being treated to burns to their feet, paws, fur and general dehydration. It costs $130 a day for the AMWRRO to take care of them. So if you would like to help, head on over and make a donation for these poor dudes (link). By the way, Mike Tyson is afraid of them, check out this story from this week in Brisbane...and he owned three tigers. hehehe, love it!

Debate Inspired Scribble

I got this image in my head when I heard Obama's zinger in regards to Romney's comment about not having more ships than they did in 1916.

"We have these things called aircraft carriers and ships that go under the water, called submarines." -

Wonder Woman at Melbourne Armageddon

When you give yourself a day off, do it in cosplay.
Met Sebastian Roche (Vampire Diaries, Fringe) on the tram this weekend, he was here for Armageddon, really nice guy...but I totally missed his panel at the con!

Okay, Ive had a really rough few weeks and it would be really cool if you could bring a smile to my face and vote for my entry into the No Doubt logo comp. The band picks the winner but to get into the top 50 and you can vote through your FB account.

PLEASE help me have a chance to win some cash and represent one of my all time favourite bands since I was a teenager.

OH and some dude stole my artwork and put it in his own entry, infringing on my automatic artistic ownership and is a comparison. I reported it to Talenthouse and told him off, he is apparently taking it down. This happens to my friends a lot.

Griffith Film School Interview

Here is an interview I did for Griffith Film School (formally Queensland College of Art), where I studied animation for four years, including an honors year.

It is the animation department's 25th anniversary and they asked me to answer some questions about my experiences before, during and after the course. I couldn't make it to the event, so here is my input if you are interested.

If you are in the Brisbane city area and interested in going and checking it all out, you can find the details here.

No Doubt Logo Design Competition

This is my entry to the No Doubt logo competition. The band chooses a winner and there is also an audience voting prize. I don't think i'll bother with the voting, that is always useless...i'll just have my fingers crossed that the band likes the design. If you would like to vote for me, voting starts September 3rd, click here.

Here is the original concept sketch.

More costume fun.

Here I am as Rogue again at Oz Comic Con (Melbourne) with my friend Marta, who went as Storm...there were plenty of X-men this time around, way more than in this photo. That is what a visit from Stan Lee and Patrick Stewart does. This is the last time I'll cosplay her this Con season as I'll be trying out Wonder Woman next.

On Hiatus

You may have noticed my blog has been without 'artwork' based posts for a while...this is because any of my time in 2012 is being spent on a personal project. Meaning I sadly have no free time, since I'm totally spending every waking hour on pre-production design and producer-ish roles...which means emailing ALL THE TIME. Before I go, here is a character design I did last year that didn't make the project, but I just thought she was too cute to leave in a file and forget about.

Canon & Kmart TVCs

Me as a mother in a new Canon TVC, from 0:43 to 1:05
Happy pretend Mother's day to me. Here are some screen caps, they had to make me look older at the end.

Here I am in a Kmart TVC, down the front in the red jumper, in front of the 'O'. There is also a clip, don't blink!

The silly soy sausage proclaiming that Vegans can have their hot dog and eat it too.

I am not a Vegan, but had a Vegan Hot Dog recently out of curiosity and they are pretty inspired me to sketch up this in my notebook.

A day at Supanova with X-men's Rogue

Adele K. Thomas as 90's X-Men Rogue at Supanova, Melbourne 2012

90's X-men Rogue cosplay costume for Melbourne 2012 Supanova. This time I remembered my headband, my X stayed attached to the belt, I have a better jacket & gave my wig a fringe...resulting in lots of great comments from people at the convention.

By the way, here is a home-made LEGO Rogue I made from sourced pieces, as well as a female Star Wars Rebel Alliance Jedi pilot...just because. I've also bought a stack of bits to make a Gambit!
